This Privacy Policy explains how Blue Space Studioz ("we", "us", "our") handles information in connection with the OmniRemote: Universal TV Control Android application (the "App"). We built OmniRemote to turn your phone into a universal remote for smart TVs and streaming devices on your local network. This policy describes what data the App accesses, what stays on your device, what is shared with advertising and diagnostic partners, and the choices you have.
Please read this policy carefully. By installing or using the App, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
OmniRemote discovers and controls televisions and streaming devices — including Android TV, Google TV, Samsung (Tizen), LG (webOS), Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Vizio, Philips, and infrared (IR) blaster-compatible devices — over your local Wi-Fi network or your phone's built-in IR blaster. All remote-control communication (sending button presses, pairing PINs, volume commands, app launch requests) happens directly between your phone and your TV on your own network. We do not operate a server that receives, stores, or relays your TV control commands.
The App also displays advertisements through Google AdMob (with Unity Ads as a mediated ad network), and uses Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics to help us diagnose crashes and understand basic app usage. Sections 4 and 5 below explain exactly what that involves.
To remember your TVs between sessions, the App maintains a local database (using Android's Room persistence library) stored entirely within the App's private storage on your device. This data is never transmitted to us, and is never sent to Firebase or our advertising partners either — we have no backend server and no access to it. It includes:
This data is removed automatically if you uninstall the App, or manually if you remove individual saved devices from within the App, or clear the App's storage via Android's system Settings.
The table below lists every permission OmniRemote declares and why it's needed.
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
TRANSMIT_IR |
Sends infrared signals via your phone's built-in IR blaster, for phones that support one. |
INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE |
Communicate with TVs over your local network, load advertisements, and send crash/diagnostic reports. |
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE, CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE |
Required to acquire a multicast lock so the App can receive mDNS/SSDP discovery broadcasts from TVs on your Wi-Fi network. Without this, Android silently drops the packets used to detect nearby TVs. |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_CONNECTED_DEVICE |
Keeps an active WebSocket connection to your TV alive while the App is minimized, so remote commands keep working and your TV doesn't disconnect. |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED |
Restores the Quick Settings tile and lock-screen remote after your phone restarts. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS |
Shows the persistent "connected to [TV name]" notification with lock-screen remote controls (Android 13+). |
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID,ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID |
Declared automatically by the Google Mobile Ads, Unity Ads, and Firebase Analytics SDKs to access the Android Advertising ID for ad delivery and measurement. See Sections 4 and 5. |
OmniRemote is free to use and is supported by advertising, delivered through Google AdMob. AdMob uses Unity Ads as a mediated demand partner within the same ad units (additional mediation partners may be added after launch). Depending on your settings and region, showing ads may involve the following being shared with Google and its mediation partners:
We do not receive or store this information ourselves — it is collected and processed directly by Google, Unity, and their mediation partners under their own privacy policies (linked in Section 6). You can reset or opt out of ad personalization at any time in your device's Android system settings under Settings → Privacy → Ads, and within the App via Settings → Privacy Options (see Section 7).
Ad types shown in the App include: banner ads, interstitial (full-screen) ads, and app-open ads. Interstitial ads are limited to no more than one every 45 seconds and are never shown during TV pairing or PIN entry.
OmniRemote uses Firebase Crashlytics, Google Analytics for Firebase, and Firebase Remote Config (Google-owned services, operated by Google LLC / Google Ireland Limited) to help us find and fix bugs, understand basic app usage, and manage forced app updates. This is separate from the advertising SDKs described in Section 4.
When the App crashes or encounters a handled (non-fatal) error, Crashlytics sends Google a crash report containing the stack trace, the Android OS version and device model, app version, and a small set of custom diagnostic tags we attach ourselves: the connected TV brand and protocol (e.g. "Samsung", "SAMSUNG_WS"), the network port used, the current connection phase (e.g. "connecting", "pairing", "sending"), and short breadcrumb log lines describing what the app was doing (e.g. "Sending KEY_VOLUP"). Our code is deliberately written to never include pairing tokens/auth keys, PINs, MAC addresses, full IP addresses, or certificate fingerprints in this diagnostic data.
Google Analytics for Firebase is bundled with the App and automatically collects standard usage events (such as app opens, sessions, and general engagement) along with device/app information (device model, OS version, app version, language, country/region derived from IP address, and the Advertising ID where permitted) — even where we have not added any custom event-tracking calls ourselves. We use this only in aggregate to understand overall app health and usage trends; we do not use it to build individual user profiles.
On each app launch, the App fetches a small configuration value from Firebase Remote Config — specifically, a minimum required app version number — to determine whether a critical update should be enforced before you can continue using the App. This fetch is tied to a Firebase Installation ID (a resettable, app-specific identifier — not your name, email, or phone number) and does not include any information about your saved TVs, pairing credentials, or remote-control usage.
Crash, analytics, and remote-config data is processed by Google under its own privacy policy (linked in Section 6) and is not linked by us to any TV, device identifier, or pairing credential stored locally on your phone (Section 2).
The App integrates the following third-party SDKs. Each operates under its own privacy policy, linked below:
| Provider | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads SDK | Primary ad serving network | policies.google.com/privacy |
| Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) | Collects and manages your GDPR/UK/US consent choices for ads | policies.google.com/privacy |
| Unity Ads (via AdMob mediation) | Mediated ad demand partner | unity.com/legal/privacy-policy |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Crash and non-fatal error reporting | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Google Analytics for Firebase | Aggregate app usage and engagement analytics | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Firebase Remote Config | Determines whether a forced app update is required | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the App presents a consent form (via Google's UMP SDK) the first time you open it, letting you choose whether to allow personalized advertising, non-personalized advertising only, or to review partner-by-partner choices. Where required, this consent choice also governs whether Google Analytics for Firebase may use your Advertising ID.
If you are located in a U.S. state with an applicable privacy law, the App presents an equivalent privacy choices message where required.
Where a consent form applies to your region, you can revisit and change your choice at any time from within the App: Settings → Privacy Options. The App's Privacy Policy link is always available in Settings regardless of your region.
OmniRemote does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide your name, email address, or phone number to use any feature of the App. There is no cloud backend operated by us — the App does not sync your saved TVs or settings across devices, and we have no server-side database of users. Crash reports and aggregate usage analytics described in Section 5 are sent directly to Google's Firebase infrastructure, not to any server we run ourselves.
Because all app-specific data (saved devices, pairing credentials, preferences) lives only in local storage on your device, it is retained for as long as the App remains installed and is permanently deleted when you uninstall the App or clear its storage. We have no ability to retain or recover this data after that point, since we never received a copy of it.
Data collected by our advertising partners (Section 4) and by Firebase Crashlytics / Analytics (Section 5) is retained and deleted according to each provider's own retention policies, linked in Section 6.
OmniRemote is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App's ad requests are not configured to treat users as children by default; if you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us using the details in Section 15 so we can address it.
Communication between the App and your TVs happens over your local Wi-Fi network. Some TV brands' native control protocols (e.g. certain LG webOS, Roku, and legacy Samsung models) only support unencrypted local connections by design; this traffic never leaves your local network and is never routed through the internet or through us. Where a TV brand supports an encrypted connection (e.g. TLS/WSS), the App uses it.
Pairing credentials stored locally (Section 2) are kept within the App's private, sandboxed storage, which is not accessible to other apps on your device under normal Android security policy. Crash and analytics reporting (Section 5) is deliberately designed to exclude these credentials, along with PINs, MAC addresses, and full IP addresses, from anything sent to Firebase.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
Because we do not operate our own servers or hold a database of personal information about you, most data-subject requests regarding ad or Firebase-related data should be directed to Google and Unity directly using the links in Section 6, or to us at the contact below and we will assist where we are able to.
Our advertising and diagnostic partners (Google/Firebase, Unity, and any future mediation partners) may process data on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States, under the safeguards described in their respective privacy policies.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, when we add a new advertising mediation partner, a new diagnostic/analytics tool, or a new feature that changes what data the App accesses. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
